The publication of the MICHELIN Key Selection 2026 marks exactly such a moment for Kazakhstan.
Some milestones do not make instant headlines, yet they permanently change how the global travel industry perceives a destination.
The MICHELIN Guide—renowned for decades for its independence and rigorous evaluation standards—has included Kazakhstan in its global hotel selection for the first time. More importantly, five Kazakh hotels have been awarded One MICHELIN Key, the hospitality equivalent of a MICHELIN Star.
This distinction is significant. A MICHELIN Key is neither a marketing label nor an award hotels can apply for. It is granted following anonymous inspections conducted under the same strict criteria used to evaluate outstanding hotels in Paris, Tokyo, and New York. It signifies that a property has been assessed against international benchmarks and recognized for delivering an exceptional guest experience.
The inclusion of Tenir Eco Hotel is particularly noteworthy. Alongside internationally renowned luxury brands, MICHELIN recognized a property where sustainability, architecture, and local identity define the guest experience. It highlights that for MICHELIN inspectors, true excellence lies not only in luxury, but also in authenticity and a strong sense of place.
In addition to the five Key recipients, nine more properties have entered the MICHELIN Guide's recommended hotel selection for the first time: Sheraton Astana Hotel, Swissôtel Wellness Resort Alatau Almaty, Qazaq Auyl Eco Hotel, Qazaq Garden, Donatello Premium Almaty, Radisson Blu Hotel Almaty Airport, Zvezdnaya Eco-Hotel, YURTA Boutique Hotel и Medina Palace Hotel.
The diversity of these properties—from urban business hotels to boutique and eco-retreats—reflects the growing sophistication and variety of Kazakhstan's hospitality landscape.
In recent years, luxury travel has undergone a clear shift. High-end travelers are increasingly looking beyond predictable destinations.
